Description:
Standing at just over five feet and three inches, Rinoa is far from the tallest person in the world. She has a slight frame, although she is curvy. She is undeniably pretty, with her girl-next-door type of features, although some aspects of her personality drive away men. Her hair is black, streaked with highlights of caramel gold and her eyes are very dark brown, almond shaped and long-lashed. Her skin is rather pale, although it should not be called pallid or unhealthy.
Her skin is riddled with small scars, from her years in the resistance, most of them un-noticeable unless one is really looking for them.
She can usually be found wearing loose, easy to move in clothes, with her trademark cape. It is light blue and has a pair of small angel-wing designs on the backs of the shoulders. She has a thin, black string around her upper-left arm, which proves that she is a member of the Forest Owls. Sometimes she also wears a copy of Squall’s ring (Griever) and her mothers ring around her neck on a chain.
Personality:
Strong and determined, Rinoa is an opinionated young woman, who hates to be silenced. She believes strongly in the right to freedom, and will fight anybody who she feels is abusing that right. She is confident, sometimes overly so, and it is this aspect that gives people a reason to follow her. She is a natural leader, and does not often like to take orders from others - she has a very real problem with those in authority, as she believes that those who have it are likely to use their power for wrongdoing; a little hypocritical.
Despite this, Rinoa is a sweet and gentle girl, who is very loyal and protective towards her friends. She’s very friendly and has a great sense of humour. Her welcoming nature helps most people to feel comfortable with her immediately, and she is very easy to get along with. She loves all animals and children, particularly her collie, Angelo. The compassion she has for those who are in trouble or are vulnerable can get her into trouble, as she is sensitive. She is also very enthusiastic about everything she does.
Rinoa is intelligent, but she has a tendency to think with her heart rather than her head. If somebody is in trouble or hurt, she will not look before she leaps, and can put herself into life-threatening situations in the process. This is one of her biggest flaws, so it is appropriate that the Headmaster pairs her up with cool-thinkers in missions, such as Squall; people like Selphie and Zell, who are also highly emotional, tend to encourage her.

History:
Rinoa Heartilly was born seventeen years ago in Galbadia. Her father was General Fury Caraway and her mother, a bar singer named Julia Heartilly. When Rinoa was just five, her mother was killed in a car accident, and, whilst dealing with this, Caraway became a lot stricter and harsher with his daughter. As a result, Rinoa began to resent him. In her early teens, she travelled to Timber and became a member of the resistance faction, the Forest Owls. Her father knew fully of this, but decided against trying to stop her as he knew it was futile - Rinoa had made her choice.
Aged sixteen, she met and briefly dated SeeD candidate Seifer Almasy. It was a summer fling more than anything, although the two developed a strong bond in their meeting. The following year, she was sent on an errand to Balamb Garden to ask for Headmaster Cid’s help - the Forest Owls had heard about the SeeD mercenaries, and wanted their help. Whilst there, she met Squall Leonhart, surprising Quistis by managing to break through his stoic exterior enough to convince him to dance with her.
Despite her small payment and faculty complaints, Headmaster Cid allowed Rinoa to have a party of SeeD help the freedom fighters in Timber. Selphie Tilmitt and Zell Dincht, along with Squall, were assigned to the cause. Together with them, Rinoa put her plan into action - to kidnap President of Galbadia, Vinzer Deling. This did not succeed as the president was a fake, and the foursome continued on to Timber. While the SeeD members expressed misgivings for the Forest Owls, upon which Rinoa revealed that they were under her contract until she felt Timber was safe from Galbadia’s control.
Which meant that the ‘mission’ could go on forever. Travelling to the TV Station, where the real Vinzer Deling planned to give a speech, they discovered that he was under control from Sorceress Edea. For the first time in a year, Rinoa also ran into Seifer again, whereupon he joined the evil sorceress. She revealed her previous relationship with him to the rest of the team, and she and Squall had a huge argument about the qualities and values of life.
The team travelled to Galbadia, where they met Rinoa’s father. Rinoa glared at him through the entire thing, snarling when he locked her in a room alone. She had always hated being trapped, and he knew it. Whilst he told them of his plan to assassinate the sorceress, Rinoa paced, trying to escape. When she finally succeeded, she rushed to make her own plans work. She offered a magical bracelet to Edea, one which would suppress her sorcery, but she saw through it and placed Rinoa under her control.
She was soon saved and freed by Squall and a man called Irvine Kinneas who joined the squad.
After an unsuccessful attack on the sorceress, and chaos with missiles directed at Gardens soon after, Rinoa was knocked into a coma during the battle of the Gardens. Although the reason for this was currently unknown, it was because Edea had passed on her Sorceress powers to Rinoa.
Driven to help Rinoa awaken from her coma, Squall travelled to Esthar, departing for the Lunar Base to find President Laguna. Whilst there, Rinoa was puppet to another Sorceress - Ultimecia. Ultimecia used Rinoa to unlock the seals on a long feared sorceress who had been put in stasis; Adel. Rinoa, no longer useful, was left to die in space. However, Squall (once again) saved her from death, and they returned to Esthar on the Ragnarok spaceship.
Upon their return, she was apprehended by officials, and almost sealed. If it hadn’t been for the help of her comrades, she would have been. The team went to the Sorceress Memorial, where she and Squall shared a ‘tender’ moment. At least, that’s how it seemed to her friends. In truth, Rinoa liked Squall well enough, and fancied him (with those eyes, who wouldn’t?) but she thought he was a bit… quiet for her tastes, and resolved to flirt with him, maybe kiss him if she got the chance, but go no further.
The team then went and invaded the Lunatic Pandora. Rinoa, as planned, was junctioned to Sorceress Adel (now on Gaia and regenerating in the Pandora). As the sorceress was defeated, she passed on her powers to Rinoa. Ultimecia seized her chance, and possessed Rinoa to begin the Time Compression. Whilst the others travelled to the future to kill Ultimecia once and for all, Rinoa was left in stasis. After Ultimecia’s defeat, each member was transported to where they wanted to be. Rinoa found herself in the meadow where she and Squall had spoken, and willed him to come home unharmed.
With the power of three sorceresses (Edea, Adel and Ultimecia, who had all passed their powers to her), she found him at the end of time and brought him home, though he, like the others, was battered and bruised. Together, she and the others began the long trip back to Balamb. On the way, they were attacked by a gang of T-Rexaurs. Though they all fought valiantly, she soon found herself exhausted and drained of her magic. Squall told them all to run, and although she was loathe to leave him, Rinoa fled with the others.
After being at Balamb for a short time, Rinoa has now grown restless - she has received word from Seifer and headmaster of Gaia Garden (Reavis Xand) that he is there, and plans to travel there to see him. She is unaware that he is comatose.

[Another site, beginning of a Rinoa/Certain Someone relationship]
Rinoa looked at the Behemoth.
The Behemoth looked at Rinoa.
Behemoths were rare creatures, even on the small stretch of land known as the Island Closest To Hell. In fact, they were even rarer now that Ultimecia had been defeated - they had just seemed to disappear. Like her friends had currently.
Where were Selphie and Irvine, the two who had chosen to accompany her when she had decided to go scouting for something edible?
The group had decided to camp out on this puny island - it was Quistis’ idea, a ‘team building’ exercise that would bring them closer. Like there was any space left between them after all they had been through. Squall had expressed concern when she had volunteered to find food, and had ordered Selphie and Irvine to go with her (despite her protests).
But now she was alone, in the dark, with a rather startled looking Behemoth in front of her. She gulped, and it sounded frighteningly loud in the silence of the island.
The startled look on the monsters face soon gave way to a grimace of anger that looked remarkably like a similar expression of her fathers. Then it roared, and all thoughts of the general were blown from her mind as she realised that she was about to enter a fight that she would not win.
With a bellow of rage, the beast crouched and charged towards her. Rinoa rolled, diving out of the way and landing badly on her right elbow, wincing as she heard a crunch. Fumbling with her blades, she loaded her pinwheel and fired it at her attacker. It deflected off, only serving to make the beast more furious than ever.
“Stupid.” She spat at herself, summoning up a ball of powerful Firaga magic and sending it into the Behemoth. It scorched its fur and it clawed the air with talons almost as long as Rinoa’s arm, shrieking with pain.
So magic was the way to go.
As she tried to recover quickly from the drain on her energy the magic had taken, a sharp pain struck her shoulder, and a heavy weight pressed down on her chest. She struggled for a moment as the now-revived Behemoth placed one massive front paw on her body, curling its claws so that they pierced her shoulder. She wanted to shout for help, but found herself breathless.
Damn, damn, damn…I’m sorry guys. She thought to herself, willing the others to somehow hear her thoughts. She gasped once, hearing a faint bark from the left and a mans voice. The Behemoth suddenly screamed, and Rinoa saw a gloved fist, glowing brightly, slam into its brow. It reared up over her, staggering back as the fist was followed by a scissor kick to its stomach. She rolled out from underneath it, Angelo licking her face as she breathedheavily, thanking every deity ever that he had come in time.
